Brighton podiatrist Dr. Bryant Castelein has been serving patients at Brighton Foot & Ankle since acquiring the practice in 2019. His path to podiatry is anything but ordinary, and understanding his background helps explain the level of care patients receive at his office.
About Brighton Podiatrist Dr. Castelein
Dr. Castelein grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, a small town known for its lake activities. He was active in boating, snow skiing, soccer, tennis, and basketball, until at age 15 he tore his ACL while downhill skiing. That injury introduced him to orthopedic surgery and set him on a path toward medicine.
After high school, Dr. Castelein attended the University of Dayton where he earned a degree in accounting and a minor in biology. Drawn to both business and medicine, he completed a one-year post-graduate program in biomedical sciences at Midwestern University in Arizona, where he discovered podiatry as a career path.
Medical Training and Board Certifications
Dr. Castelein attended Dr. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, earning both his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. He completed a three-year surgical residency at Genesis Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan, a Level 2 trauma center, where he gained extensive experience in reconstructive surgery, diabetic wound care, minimally invasive procedures, and arthroscopy.
He holds board certifications from both the ABPM (American Board of Podiatric Medicine) and ABFAS (American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery), including certification in both foot surgery and rearfoot and ankle surgery.
Life in Brighton
Dr. Castelein moved to Brighton in 2019 when he acquired Brighton Foot & Ankle and has called it both home and work ever since. Outside of the office he stays active through skiing, pickleball, gym workouts, and water skiing in the summer. He treats patients of all ages, from infants to centenarians, and handles everything from skin conditions and diabetic care to complex reconstructive surgery and trauma cases.
