Meet Bryant Castelein, DPM

Dr. Castelein is a board-certified foot and ankle specialist and the founder of Brighton Foot & Ankle. He built this practice on a simple belief — that patients deserve honest, personalized care from someone who actually listens. Whether you’re dealing with a nagging heel, a complex injury, or anything in between, Dr. Castelein takes the time to understand your situation and find the right path forward.

His Approach

Dr. Castelein stays at the forefront of podiatric medicine by regularly attending physician conferences, surgical courses, and remaining active in residency programs. He combines minimally invasive surgical techniques with natural healing and traditional treatments — always choosing the least invasive option that gets lasting results. He also works closely with area physicians to ensure seamless, coordinated care for every patient.

Education & Training

Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine

Dr. Castelein earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, along with a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. His clinical training took place across multiple Veterans Affairs and county hospitals, giving him a broad foundation of patient experience early in his career.

He completed his residency at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where he received extensive training in foot and ankle reconstruction, diabetic wound care, and limb preservation. During residency he also earned additional certifications in dermatology and foot and ankle arthroscopy. He remains closely involved with Genesys residents to this day — something he genuinely enjoys.

His Story

Dr. Castelein grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where he developed a love for boating, skiing, and soccer. It was actually a pair of knee ligament tears in high school that first sparked his interest in surgery and sports medicine — so in a way, his patients have his younger self to thank.

He went on to study at the University of Dayton, earning a degree in accounting with a minor in biology, and was an active member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a premedical honor society. He also coached the university’s club soccer team — a role he credits as one of the highlights of his college years.

Today Dr. Castelein lives right here in Brighton. In the winter you’ll find him on the slopes at Mt. Brighton. Come summer, he’s on his paddleboard, at a local golf course, or exploring the area’s hiking trails. He’s a proud fan of the University of Dayton, University of Wisconsin, and the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, and Cubs.

My first visit with Dr. Castelein and his staff were exceedingly productive. The office was run so efficiently, and great pains were taken to get me in for an appointment. Dr. Castelein and his assistant were beyond friendly and knowledgeable. I left with hope that my very flat feet and stretched tendons can be managed and I will be able to get back to walking again without pain soon. Thank you everyone!
