About Dr. Castelein: Foot and Ankle Surgeon in Brighton MI
Dr. Castelein grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where he was active in skiing, soccer, tennis, and boating. Two ACL tears as a teenager introduced him to orthopedic surgery and set him on the path toward medicine. He went on to earn a degree in accounting and a minor in biology at the University of Dayton before discovering podiatry during a post-graduate program at Midwestern University.
Education and Surgical Training
Dr. Castelein attended Dr. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, earning his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. He completed a three-year surgical residency at Genesis Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan, a Level 2 trauma center, where he trained extensively in reconstructive surgery, trauma, minimally invasive procedures, and arthroscopy.
He also completed a two-week dermatology fellowship in Georgia, rounding out his ability to treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions beyond surgery.
Board Certifications
Dr. Castelein holds certifications from both the ABPM (American Board of Podiatric Medicine) and ABFAS (American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery), with specific certifications in both foot surgery and rearfoot and ankle surgery. These certifications reflect years of continued education, testing, and clinical experience beyond basic licensure.
Brighton Foot & Ankle
Dr. Castelein acquired Brighton Foot & Ankle in 2019 and has been the sole provider ever since. He treats patients of all ages, from infants to patients over 100 years old, handling everything from ingrown toenails and skin conditions to complex reconstructive surgery and trauma cases.
Outside the office he stays active through skiing, pickleball, gym workouts, and water skiing, which keeps him connected to the kinds of activities his patients want to get back to after treatment.
